Mission statement

We are a group of graduate students interested in improving the training culture in academia. Our aim is to raise the standard of behavior in our workplaces so that all are treated with dignity and respect by working towards the following goals:

  • Empowering and equipping our department to manage problems that may arise from inherent, but often overlooked, power dynamics
  • Preventing hostile work environments by bridging communication gaps within labs, across labs, and throughout the departmental hierarchy
  • Supporting trainees to address interpersonal and structural issues in the workplaces, and dismantling the obstacles that trainees face when addressing these issues
  • Strengthening professional relationships between mentors and trainees by coordinating mentorship training opportunities
  • Expanding the scope of our mission to other academic entities by sharing our work and collaborating with other like-minded academics
